The following explanations are being issued in response to known errata and statements requiring clarification in the 2008-09 testing materials. Please contact the WIDA Help Desk (1-866-287-7735) if you have any questions or concerns about this information.

"Use of highlighters (yellow only) by student" as an approved accommodation If student highlights correct answer in yellow, test administrator must bubble in correct answer in pencil.

"Write directly in test booklet" (e.g. to take notes or cross out incorrect answers) as an approved accommodation If student marks anything more than his or her selected answer in the answer choice area, test administrator must transcribe the student's answer choices into a "clean" test booklet and paperclip both booklets together to be returned to MetriTech. The extra booklet will be provided at no cost.

"If a task has several main questions, only one need be answered appropriately to meet expectations, provided that one answer demonstrates the expected quantity and quality of language." Each task has several questions. To meet expectations, the student must provide at least one response that demonstrates the expected quantity and quality of language for the given level of language proficiency.

Repeating Items: "If a student asks you to repeat an item, it is acceptable to repeat an item one time." Refers to Speaking tasks ONLY. For Listening tasks, the Test Administrator may NOT repeat an item unless a severe disturbance or interruption occurs.

"Moving on" Criteria with Listening and Speaking Tasks If student meets criteria for advancement, even though his or her response may have been deficient in one of the two areas (Listening or Speaking), both parts must be administered at the next level. For example, students may score 2 or 3 in Listening and Approaches in Speaking at Level 1, and still move on to score Meets in Speaking at Level 2 even though they did not meet expectations on the lower level task.
